Under development by Sanofi-Aventis, Acomplia (rimonabant) is a selective CB1 endocannabinoid receptor antagonist indicated for the treatment of obesity. Rimonabant is the first selective CB1 receptor blocker to be approved for use anywhere in the world. In USA, Europe, it is indicated for use in conjunction with diet and exercise for patients with a body mass index greater than 30 kg/m², or patients wih a BMI greater than 27 kg/m² with associated risk factors, such as type 2 diabetes or dyslipidaemia. In the UK, it has been available since the end of July 2006. As of 2007, acomplia was available in 38 countries. Activation of these receptors by endoegenous cannabinoids, such as anadamide, increases appetite. It is the most advanced endocannabinoid receptor antagonist in clinical development and offers a novel therapeutic approach to appetite control and weight reduction. Acomplia (Rimonabant), perhaps in combination with other drugs, may in fact prove to be a useful tool in the fight against obesity and its adverse health effects. But it's not going to be the magic bullet that many users are evidently hoping for. Acomplia is a new medication which helps people to lose weight, rimonabant (also named Acomplia), and it is helping also patiens with diabetes type 2. It helps people lose pounds and meanwhile it makes patiens have a much better blood sugar levels,so science people say. The buy of acomplia is being approved and tested in Europe. Acomplia (Rimonabant) targets a pleasure center in the brain that researchers believe is linked to overeating and other behaviors such as smoking. This new research is the fourth positive study of the drug, showing that Acomplia can take off pounds and help people stop smoking.Acomplia can take off pounds and help people stop smoking. Acomplia has generated much hype among the obese and the overweight people. Though new to the field of obesity control, people are literally running to purchase the wonder drug Acomplia. And with the drug being now available online at Weight-Loss-Drug, one has to little think about how they are to get their hands on the drug. Rimonabant acomplia in clinical test also found to be effective in assisting some smokers to quit smoking. There is a direct relation between obesity and increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes and possibly certain cancers, such as breast and colorectal cancer. Not all discoveries are planned. Many a times results of research amaze the researcher itself. A similar instance was noticed when research was being undertaken on Acomplia for its weight loss properties. It was observed that the drug was helpful in reducing cravings for not only food but also smoking. This was a breakthrough discovery and was hailed by people all over the world. Obesity and smoking are two of the most severe problems grappling the society today. Today obesity causes the most number of deaths worldwide, mainly in the form of cardio-vascular complications. Smoking too contributes to nearly 20% of all deaths. A single pill to deal with both these problems people are swooning over Acomplia s weight loss and anti-smoking properties. Acomplia is the brand name of Rimonabant. Developed by Sanofi-Aventis, rimonabant works by blocking a pleasure centre. This pleasure centre would get titillated and thus patients would feel hunger pangs. Researchers at Sanofi-Aventis thought that if this pleasure centre were blocked, it would reduce cravings for food. When appetite is dampened, the patient will automatically lose weight. As a result of Acomplia, you will take less food which helps you to reduce your cholesterol levels. When you start losing weight, the first place you will lose body fat is your mid-section. And your cholesterol will go down and your blood pressure will return to healthy levels if you use Acomplia. Acomplia works in an entirely different way, by blocking a “pleasure center” in the brain, leading people to eat less and acting directly on fat cells to prevent weight gain. Company studies suggest it also might help people quit smoking. It blocks receptors that would otherwise receive messages of hunger and transmit those messages to the brain. In other words, Acomplia is an appetite suppressant. Combined with a low calorie diet and adequate exercise, people who take Acomplia can lose weight safely.Another benefit of Acomplia is that it appears to suppress cravings for addictive substances like nicotine. Research has shown that smokers who take drug Acomplia are more likely to quit smoking and to do so without the usual weight gain that is often associated with quitting. In addition, levels of certain risk factors for heart disease improved in subjects who were given Acomplia in clinical trials. In particular, HDL (good) cholesterol levels rose, and triglyceride levels decreased. Further, blood glucose was better regulated in subjects who took Acomplia, so it can help people with diabetes lose weight as well as improve blood levels of sugar and fat.The generic name for Acomplia is Rimonabant. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) became the first country to launch Acomplia/Zimulti in the Middle East. A recent survey found that 37 percent of the UAE population is now obese -- one of the highest obesity rates in the Middle East, according to Sanofi. "Among people who are overweight or obese, it is those with excess fat around their abdomen who are at the greatest risk of developing an abnormal lipid profile, type 2 diabetes and ultimately heart disease," said Dr. Wael Al Mahmeed, Vice President of the Emirates Cardiac Society. The drug, rimonabant, which the French company Sanofi-Aventis hopes to sell under the brand name Acomplia, trimmed nearly 16 pounds on average from people taking the optimal dose for two years, compared with 5.5 pounds for those who took dummy pills, doctors reported Tuesday at a cardiology conference.
